The City Different buzzes with art activity this month
SANTA FE • It’s the busiest month of the year in Santa Fe, and a slew of gallery shows are taking place all over the city. Altermann Galleries (www.altermann.com) presents a two-person show for Nelson Boren and Kim Wiggins beginning Friday, August 1. A solo show featuring new works by Tony Abeyta opens August 1 at Blue Rain Gallery (www.blueraingallery.com), and its annual Indian Market show takes place August 19-24. Solo shows for Arturo Chavez and G. Russell Case open August 8 and works by William Shepherd hang throughout the month at Gerald Peters Gallery (www.gpgallery.com). Works by Roseta Santiago are on display beginning August 22 at Giacobbe Fritz Gallery (www.giacobbefritz.com). Meanwhile, Sage Creek Gallery (www.sagecreekgallery.com) presents a show of new works by Ken Rowe throughout the month and its annual Indian Market group show August 22-24. Waxlander Gallery (www.waxlander.com) presents new works by Lisa Linch beginning August 5, a solo show for Bruce King on August 19, and paintings by Matthew Higginbotham from August 26 through September 8. A solo show for Miguel Martinez opens August 1, an Indian Market group show begins August 22, and new paintings by Ethelinda are on display beginning August 29 at Mantiou Galleries (www.manitougalleries.com). Ventana Fine Art (www.ventanafineart.com) presents its Indian Market show, opening August 22 and featuring John Nieto, Margarete Bagshaw, and Rebecca Tobey. Kiva Fine Art (www.kivafineart.com) celebrates Indian Market with a show featuring its gallery artists August 20-24. Watercolor paintings by William Matthews hang August 9-29 at Nedra Matteucci Galleries (www.matteucci.com). Zuni Pueblo pottery is on display at Adobe Gallery (www.adobegallery.com) throughout the month. Gallery 822 (www.gallery822canyonroad.com) presents a two-person show of works by Linda St. Clair and Amy Ringholz beginning August 8 and an Indian Market show featuring Joshua Tobey, Robert Taylor, and K. Indian Market Returns
SANTA FE • The city comes alive with the return of the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts 87th annual Santa Fe Indian Market, held August 23-24 on the Plaza. Throughout the weekend, art collectors can peruse works by over 1,000 Native American artists from more than 100 tribes and enjoy art demonstrations, book signings, and live entertainment. Taos Happenings
TAOS • The historic art colony of Taos is full of activity this month as several galleries host special shows. Act I Gallery (575.758.7831, www.actonegallery.com) presents pastel and oil paintings by Dinah K. Worman from August 2 through September 20. Inspired by Nature
SCOTTSDALE • Abstract Earth: Colors of the Desert is on view at Wilde Meyer Discoveries August 2-30. The show highlights gallery artists who paint abstracted compositions using earth-toned palettes. The Art of Glass
DALLAS • An exhibit showcasing four diverse glass artists opens this month at Kittrell/Riffkind Art Glass. Works include abstract “glass paintings” by Terrie Corbett, blown-glass hats by Brian Brenno, beads and jewelry by Joyce Roessler, and sculptural pieces by husband-and-wife team Jeremy Newman and Allison Ciancibelli.
