Eighty-nine percent of attendees surveyed in 2007 said they were very satisfied or satisfied with their experience. Over 22,000 people attended Arts Festival Oklahoma in 2007. The juried fine arts and crafts exhibition and market is renowned for the diversity of its showings, including pottery, sculpture, paintings, photography, glasswork, jewelry, woodwork, and other handmade items. In addition to showcasing Oklahoma arts and crafts, the festival involves artists from throughout the region: Arkansas, Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, California, Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri. The festival's live musical performances continues to draw large attendance.

Sep 12, 2008 Art show and sale Los Alamos, NM 170 Central Park Square 661-2526 Add to My SWA	The Sacred Interdimension � Walking Between Two Worlds On September 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Village Arts in Los Alamos, The Harp of the Spirit Publishing Company and Village Arts by Marilyn will host a fine arts opening titled �The Sacred Interdimension � Walking Between Two Worlds.� The opening will feature joint two-dimensional works by Michelle Stump, Ede Ericson Cardell, and Craig Lehmann as well as individual sculptures by both Cardell and Lehmann. The exhibit is open to the public and there will be entertainment, finger food, wine and beer. The interdimensional artwork featured in this show was created by Stump and is based on sculpture by nationally-acclaimed bronze sculptors Craig Lehman and Ede Ericson Cardell. Stump took the photographs of Lehmann�s work and primarily used photos that Ede Ericson Cardell took of her own work, in the development of this new art form. She met Cardell and Lehmann at the Shidoni Gallery and Foundry in Tesuque. On a visit there, Stump watched foundry workers pour molten bronze into ceramic molds and was inspired by how artwork in the third dimension differed from her own work, which exists in the electronic world of the digital and in the two-dimensional world of print. Lehmann and Cardell will each bring several of their bronze sculptures to Los Alamos for the exhibit. With guidance from the artists, the public will be encouraged to travel into the sacred interdimension, and walk between two very divergent art worlds. �When someone is looking at a piece of my artwork they can walk around it and the viewer creates their own space. They make a decision about how they�re going to see it,� said Cardell. �But in the two dimensional pieces we�ve created that space for the viewer, taking them to that other place. We�ve created the spiritual and mystical essence of how we see it. It�s no longer about the sculpture but about how we see it.� It will be a surprise what sculptures will be at the show. A 52" x 39" version of Michelle Stump�s interpretation of Ede Ericson Cardell�s bronze sculpture, �Revolution� will be on display at the opening, but the sculpture may not be at the exhibit. �There will be something there, but I don�t know what. All of mine are different, so if one of them is sold I won�t have it anymore,� said Cardell, whose sculptures cannot be recreated because she uses the lost-wax method. In the lost-wax method the artist sculpts directly into wax. The wax is melted out of a ceramic shell mold and makes a hollow cavity for the bronze to be poured into. Once the ceramic shell is broken away what was once in wax is now in bronze. The original wax sculpture is gone. Lehmann will also decide what sculpture to show based on what he sells in August. He said, �I work really hard on these sculptures, I almost don�t want to sell them.� Although he can make multiple copies of his sculptures because he uses ceramic molds, the process of finishing the pieces is time consuming. �Little things make a difference when you�re finishing,� he said. �When [the sculptures] are little, it�s almost like jewelry. Sometimes I have to make my own chisels that are small enough or sometimes I find a rock in the parking lot to bang on it for a different texture.� Most of Lehman�s pieces are less than three feet tall; Stump�s interpretations make them look larger than life. �She makes them look monumental!� said Lehmann. �I think it�s going to be really beautiful and interesting to see the transitions of things,� said Cardell. �It�s not going to be the same old show. It�s going to be something different.� The evening will also celebrate Ede Ericson Cardell�s, Craig Lehmann�s, and Michelle Stump�s (i.e., The Harp of the Spirit�s) new collections of affordable printed fine art products on www.printedculture.com. Using digital print technology, Printed Culture manufactures useful items like notepads, magnets and calendars out of works of art and pays the artists a percentage of the profits. �We�re proud to host a show for Michelle,� said Marilyn Warren, the owner of Village Arts. The Village Arts has carried The Harp of the Spirit�s notecard and poster line for the past five years. The store will be open for the exhibit. Ready made frames will be on sale and they will give a 10% discount on custom framing to people who buy Stump�s prints. Their address is 170 Central Park Square. In egg tempera, pigments from crushed minerals are mixed with water and an egg yolk binder, and then painted on in delicate layers. Oil paintings change over time, darkening or yellowing with age, but with egg tempera the colors dry rapidly and the colors are luminous and last for centuries. The class is taught by Miranda Gray, who said, �I love using this ancient medium in a contemporary way, pushing the form in a direction that is unpredictable.� The class will be on Mondays from 6-8:30 pm from September 1 through October 6. $135 (plus tax) Supplies $30.
